Owner/builder Sean Chrisman has an office in Fair Oaks, California, not far from where the worst fire in California state history, the Paradise Fire of 2018, destroyed homes and killed 85 people. Chrisman worked as a builder and firefighter in the Tahoe area during the Angora Fire of 2007 in El Dorado County, California. He has experience building Lindal Cedar Homes, and rebuilding homes after a fire.
“After the Angora fire; that’s when all the WUI laws came into effect,” Chrisman said. The WUI laws (short for Wildlife Urban Interface) are requirements that anyone wishing to build a new home in California in a high-risk fire area needs to comply with in order to get their house plans approved.
“We live and work up in the Sierra Nevadas in Twin Bridges at 6,000 foot elevations. That’s what we do; we’re high-mountain builders. We’re equipped to deal with WUI homes,” Chrisman said.
His message is simple: “Build intelligently in high fire-risk areas with Lindal. 1,800 degree flash fires like the one in Paradise are becoming the new normal. You can’t stop a fire like that, but you can mitigate the damage by using the correct materials.”
