A Fire-Resistant Home in California
This is a custom OM Studio design in northern California. This home was a built after a devastating fire destroyed many homes in the area. The home is rated to conform to California’s WUI (Wildland Urban Interface) code, making this a fire-resistant home.
Large overhangs at the entry and off the back patio provide protection from the elements.
It’s clear from the scale of the great room, the grand central fireplace, and the length of the bar that this home was designed for entertaining.
Both bedrooms open to the outdoors. All rooms face the view.
A seamless transition between indoors and out is achieved by the extension of the beams through the home’s envelope to support the very deep patio overhang, and the continuation of the indoor flooring out to the patio area. The exterior siding is made of fire-resistant fiber cement, a popular, low-maintenance choice that comes in a large variety of pre-stained colors.
